Graphic Design Club | Create a Rocking Mock-Up Design in Canva

In this ongoing class, learners will use Canva, an excellent Photoshop alternative, to design a variety of graphical art including T-Shirts, book covers, movie covers, invitations, cards, and mugs. 

In this class, learners will be able to design alongside the instructor to create their own graphic design.  The teacher will screen share a design that she is creating as learners use their creativity to create their own design.  

***Parents will need to sign learners up for a Pro Canva account before class. Canva Pro costs 12.99/month.  Learners will need to be logged into their Canva account prior to the start of class. A desktop device is highly recommended. The Canva tablet app does not operate in exactly the same manner as the desktop version and the teacher will be screen sharing the desktop version.   

Learners will need basic computer skills including an understanding of drag and drop and how to conduct this task on their device.  They will also need to know how to navigate multiple windows if they are using Canva on the same device that they are logged into the classroom.  

Canva has a variety of features and we will explore a range of them each week in a learner directed way depending on their design choices.  A selection of the features explored are:

Templates - Canva has thousands of ready-to-use templates for designs.  I will show learners how to access them but we will create our own designs from scratch.  

Elements - Canva has an extensive selection of elements and we will explore many of the various element types and learners will be taught to search for the type of elements that they would like to use.

	- Charts
	- Frames
	- Grids

Text - Canva has a wide range of text styles available. Learners will learn to insert various text types and change font, size, color, and spacing.  

	- Heading
	- Subheading
	- Body text
	- Font Combination

Styles - Canva allows style changes to allow quick designing of the theme for an entire page.  Learners will explore the styles feature. 

	- Color Styles
	- Font Styles

Backgrounds  - Learners will learn how to insert backgrounds and remove image backgrounds.  
Draw - Learners will explore Canva's draw feature to create their own drawings to use in designs.  

This is an ongoing class so learners can join and leave at any time and need no prior experience with Canva to join during any given week.
